At first of the month after Age 18, student can apply for KanCare Medicaid (this will cover co pays and Targeted Case Management fees, even If adult child remains on parents insurance.

** NOTE – All children can stay on parents group health insurance until age 26.  Depending on the state, the insurance company, and the employer, adult children with permanent disability can often remain on group policy much longer. 

*** Most group health insurance primary doctors do NOT take KanCare.  Specialists and hospitals usually do.

NOTE:  At age 18, KanCare will place adult child into Kancare Pediatrics.  You will need to reapply at age 19 for adult child to be transferred into KanCare Adult.

Many non-medical benefits are available, if eligible.  Food Assistance is the most common.  The amount is updated each year and upon any changes.  This must be applied for separately than the KanCare Medicaid.
